Course Registration

Applicants are reminded of the importance of registering themselves early in view of the limited vacancies. Only students who are very keen to continue studies for the whole year need to apply. Under exceptional and unavoidable circumstances one month’s notice or a month’s fee in lieu shall be accepted.

Exam Registration

All  private candidates are reminded that they should register for the Singapore-Cambridge GCE Examinations during the relevant registration period. They should do this directly on MoE’s website, and on their own accord. The deadline for registration period is typically around mid-March, for an exam sitting in November of that year. Late registrations will not be accepted by MoE. Details are available at www.moe.gov.sg.

Attire

School students are to attend the institute in their school uniform. Regular attendance is compulsory and on no reason should students absent themselves from class Tests and Examinations. There shall not be any PRACTICAL LESSONS during the RE-OPENING WEEK. Owing to the continuity of thought and application in the treatment of Science Subjects, it is imperative that candidates should be present from the very day of commencement.

Attendance

Regular attendance is strictly enforced. Should you not be able to attend any lesson for any reason, you must let us know soon, and if required must be supported by a medical certificate. Excessive absence without valid reasons may lead to disciplinary action being taken against you.

International Students must attend a minimum of 90% of scheduled hours. If International Students are absent form the course for 7 consecutive days without valid reasons, the school will make an effort to contact them. However if the school is unable to contact the students, steps will be taken to cancel the Student’s Pass on the 8th day of absence. Hence, students are urged to update their contact particulars with the school.

Discipline

The institute frowns upon poor student discipline. Minor discipline problems will be attended to by counseling and advise from the staff. The students’ parents/guardian may be involved in these sessions.

Certain misdemeanors will be considered sufficiently serious to be classified as Gross Misconduct and dismissal may result. Offences in this category include:

  • Physical assault on students or staff
  • Racial or sexual harassment
  • Theft
  • Willful damage to school property equipment
  • Drug related matters.

Mobile Phones / Music Players

The use of mobile phones and music players is strictly forbidden during lessons.

Class Changes

The Institute reserves the right to make changes to the Time Table and to discontinue any class if the necessity arises, eg due to poor enrolment and attendance. Sufficient notice will be given to the affected students.

Laboratory

This Institute is well-equipped with the most up-to-date and precise apparatus in all branches of Science. There have been considerable additions recently to cope with the increased demand and to uphold its policy of providing more practical work than theory.

Practical record books are to be submitted regularly for marking and correction by the Lecturer-in-charge.

Students are not allowed to handle any of the chemicals or apparatus unless they are permitted to do so by the Lecturer-in -charge. Students who are unfamiliar with the apparatus supplied, should seek the assistance of the Lecturer- in-charge before manipulating it.

All apparatus used by the students for Practical should be returned intact. Remember, you are handling precision instruments, which are very delicate and very costly. Please handle them gently and carefully. Any breakage or disorder should be immediately reported to the Lab Assistant  and Supervisor. Students are responsible for damages to the laboratory apparatus.

Chemicals leftover after practical work are Not To Be Taken Away.

The Lab, will be closed two weeks before the G.C.E. ‘O’ and ‘A’ level Practical Examinations, as required by the Ministry of  Education, but Theory classes will continue as per schedule.

Comfort

For the comfort and convenience of our students, all our classrooms are air-conditioned.

Holidays

The Institute will adopt Singapore government-gazetted holidays, and its own holidays as detailed in its Student Handbook and on our website. There shall be no make-up class in the event that a scheduled class falls on such a holiday.

Teacher substitution

The Institute reserves the right to substitute teachers, without notice, due to medical reasons or other exigencies of services.

Makeup classes

In the event that classes cannot be conducted due to unforeseen circumstances, the Institute reserves the right to make alternative arrangements to conduct makeup classes. Suitable advance notice of such changes will be provided.

There will be no makeup class or refund of fees for absenteeism by students.
