All our trainers are graduates and are accredited by MOE to teach in the relevant subjects. Additionally, many have post-graduate professional qualifications, industry certification, and several years working experience in education, public and private businesses. They bring a wealth of information and real life examples right into the classroom. A brief profile of our trainers is provided below:-
Mr Ho covers Sec4 Chemistry of the syllabus. He obtained a degree in Chemistry and Mathematics from the University of Singapore in 1965. After completing his teachers’ training , he taught at several schools, including Siglap Secondary, Serangoon Garden Secondary and Victoria School, where he was the senior chemistry teacher. Mr Ho later left the teaching service to take up a post as chemist with a major oil company. During this period, he was posted to several countries, including China, The Netherlands and Brunei. His vast experience in the petroleum industry gives him a broader perspective when he teaches his students. Besides teaching chemistry at S.I.S., he also teaches mathematics part-time at the ITE.
After having worked in the Mechanical Engineering field in Singapore and U.K as Product and Research Engineer for about 5 years, he has been in the teaching profession for the past 23 years. He taught at Singapore and Temasek Polytechnics in the Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration departments for 13 years. Since 1995, he conducts courses in Business Management for students sitting for CIMA examinations. He has been teaching Physics at SIS since 2001.
Mrs Arul has been a part-time chemical process technology lecturer at S’pore Polytechnic, and a biochemistry tutor at NUS from 1978 thru 1981. From May 1981 thru Sep 1985 she was the Health Education Officer at the S’pore Family Planning and Population Board. She assumed the role of Senior Officer (Health Promotion) at Ministry of Health till 1998. From Apr 1998 thru May 2002 she was the Director (Corporate services) at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. She was the recipient of several awards (including National Day Award). She has co-authored several publications and papers on health-related topics. Currently she has been teaching O-level biology at SIS since 2003.
Mr Lingam has been teaching “O” and “A” level Physics at SIS since 2002. Mr Lingam completed his secondary and pre-university education at Raffles Institution. After qualifying as an electrical engineer from the then University of Singapore in 1974, he worked for SingTel for 5 years. His passion for teaching was such that, during this period, he did part time teachings in the evenings including a spell at the then Beatty Secondary School where he taught “A” level Pure Mathematics. He joined Motorola in 1981, where he had a broad-based career for 17 years. He left Motorola to setup an IP fax business with a partner. This has given him the flexibility to pursue his passion for teaching on a part-time basis. He is a very painstaking teacher who takes his job seriously. As a result, he has been appreciated by local and foreign students attending his classes at SIS. Mr Lingam’s wide industrial experience in the working world gives a broad perspective to his teaching. His long stint as a systems and sales engineer has given him the knack to explain difficult concepts in simple terms.
Mr Tan has 22 years experience teaching GCE ‘O’ level Chemistry in both independent and neighbourhood schools such as RGS and Fairfield Methodist Secondary School. Besides teaching Chemistry as his special subject, he had also taught Biology as well as Lower Secondary Science. He served as subject head for Chemistry for a number of years and promoted the use of IT in Chemistry education. He had successfully integrated critical thinking skills into content areas. As career guidance officer and form teacher, Mr Tan was actively involved in the pastoral care of students. He adopts an interdisciplinary approach to teaching whenever possible and strives to promote student mastery of the subject. Besides teaching Mr Tan is currently involved in promoting holistic living through organizing talks, retreats and workshops.
Mrs.Ramesh has an outgoing personality. She has a knack for keeping students interested, even when she is covering difficult and dry topics. Mrs.Ramesh has taught in several Singapore schools since 1996. Some of the schools she has taught in, include Catholic High, Yishun Secondary & Woodlands Secondary. She has been teaching Pure Biology and Combined Science at SIS since 2006 |
