COST OF LIVING & ACCOMMODATION OPTIONS

The standard of living in Singapore is amongst the highest in Asia. Compared to most first world countries in western continents, the cost of living here is relatively low. Basic items like food and clothing are very reasonably priced.

When planning the budget, the int'l student will need to cater for these items. These estimated costs in the Table below gives a rough guide of the basic expenditure an international student may incur during his stay in Singapore.

Item

Cost of living, per month, per student

Accommodation

$200 - $1,500
(rental varies with geographical area, type of accommodation, demand, facilities provided, and the number of people sharing).

Note: It is a common practice for landlords to request for 2 months deposit from tenants, who are required to give a month’s notice of non-renewal. If the tenant vacates the premises without notice, this deposit will normally be forfeited.

Utilities

$50 - $80

Food

$300 - $450 (Based on $10-$15 a day for 3 meals)

Public Transport

$20 - $100 (varies with types of student concession pass)

Telecommunications

From $30 (varies with usage and promotional packages subscribed)

Books & Stationery

$30 - $100 (varies with course)

Medical & Hospitalisation Insurance

$5 - $300 (depending on insurance policy)

Personal expenses

$100 - $200 (varies with individuals)
(viz clothes, toiletries, entertainment, haircut, miscellaneous)

Hence an international student in Singapore spends on average about S$750 to S$2,000 a month on living expenses only. This specifically excludes course fees, exam fees etc.

We are seeking suitable agents to handle accommodation matters for our international students. Once we have finalized the appointment of agents, we will publish the information for the students.
